Nice place and good service. The food was okay but not is expensive and wasn't really worth it. We didn't like the octopus, you could only taste char and the tomatoes in the panzanella were not ripe. Lobster risotto was also not very good, beets were the only thing with flavor and it didn't really seem to mesh well with the lobster. Beef was good, cooked well and the vegetable was yummy

Everything about this restarant is first class. From the decor, the ambiance, the presentation, the finest ingredients, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. This place is a little gem in Edgartown. If there was a ten star rating, I would give it to Detente.
I eat dinner here once every visit to the Vineyard and I've been doing so for many years. Detente never disappoints! The bass special last night was delicious - perfectly cooked and a nice combination of textures and flavors. The special peach, mozzarella with truffle oil salad is exceptional. At $17, it's a lot of money for a salad and worth every penny. The peaches are just amazing and the combination is so good. I always order their signature blueberry buttermilk bread pudding. I dream about it all winter. Perfection!
The second time there, they were clearly backed up and the service was on the slow side. While we really didn't mind, our waiter was very attentive and apologetic about the matter, and the kitchen sent us out additional appetizers (on the house) while we waited for our mains.
A favorite of ours for years. Consistently imaginative and flavorful cooking. Fine wine list. Truly professional service.
I've been twice now and could not be more impressed with this place. The food has been phenomenal: both creative and perfectly executed. They also clearly make an effort to use locally sourced ingredients when possible.
